Secretary of State & Attorney General to Provide Support to County Clerks at General Election Polling Locations around New Mexico

Santa Fe, NM – Today, New Mexico Secretary of State Brad Winter and Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that the Attorney General will assist the Secretary of State’s Office in providing additional support to county clerks on Election Day to ensure proper conduct at polling locations around New Mexico. State law provides that upon the request of the Secretary of State, the Attorney General shall assign investigators or lawyers to aid the Secretary of State on Election Day to maintain consistency and uniformity.

“New Mexicans’ right to vote is paramount and the Office of the Attorney General will ensure that right is freely exercised on Election Day,” said Attorney General Balderas. “Our special agents and assistant attorneys general will work diligently with the Office of the Secretary of State and county clerks to ensure proper conduct at polling locations across our state on Election Day.”

“Election Administrators in all counties across the state are well prepared to ensure the proper conduct of elections,” said Secretary of State Winter. “Adding this partnership between my office and the Office of the Attorney General provides for additional support to county election officials if they need it and further instills trust by the public in the electoral process.”
