The Office of New Mexico Attorney General will participate in the Out of the Darkness walk promoting suicide awareness

Albuquerque, NM – The Albuquerque chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting their annual Out of the Darkness suicide awareness walk in honor of suicide awareness month. This week, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that his office will participate in the walk in Albuquerque. Suicide
is the second leading cause of death for adolescents and New Mexico currently ranks fifth in the nation for
suicide.

“Suicide is an issue that can affect all of our children and families, and it’s an invisible threat sweeping
communities across New Mexico,” said Attorney General Balderas. “We must become educated on the warning
signs, and work to protect our family and friends.”

Healthy Minds: Suicide Awareness is one of the many free presentations being offered as part of the Office of
the Attorney General’s Year of the Student outreach campaign which focuses on educating all New Mexicans to
live healthier, safer, and more economically prosperous lives.
