Albuquerque, NM – Attorney General Hector Balderas announced prosecutors with the Office of the New Mexico Attorney General successfully argued to put a convicted sex offender and probation violator behind bars. Court records show that Lovato did not register as a sex offender, as required by law, and disregarded court orders by interacting is on social media. On Thursday, Judge Michael Martinez agreed with the Office of the Attorney General that Lovato should be placed into state custody, sentencing him to 18 months.

“I’m pleased that Judge Martinez saw the importance of getting this individual off of the streets and away from children,” said Attorney General Hector Balderas. “Our office has made it a top priority to prosecute sex offenders, who remain serious dangers to children in our community.”

Lovato will serve 18 months in state custody, followed by supervised probation and an extended period of parole upon his release.
