Division Director for Civil Rights - Albuquerque or Santa Fe

The New Mexico Office of the Attorney General is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Division Director for Civil Rights. The Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing legal matters related to civil rights enforcement and protection. Their primary focus is promoting equality, combating discrimination, and upholding constitutional and statutory rights. The Director will work closely with the Attorney General, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and Deputy Attorney General for Affirmative Litigation and collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal professionals to develop and execute strategic litigation initiatives.

Division Director for Environmental Protection - Albuquerque or Santa Fe

The Environmental Protection Division Director is responsible for overseeing and managing legal matters related to environmental protection and enforcement. Deputy Attorney General for Affirmative Litigation - Albuquerque or Santa Fe

The Deputy Attorney General will play a critical role in leading and managing our affirmative litigation efforts. IPRA Attorney Lead - Albuquerque

The New Mexico Office of the Attorney General seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the lead attorney for fulfilling Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) requests. The lead IPRA Attorney is responsible for overseeing and managing legal matters related to IPRA requests to the Office. Their primary focus is the timely, efficient, and effective processing of requests to inspect public records. The IPRA Lead Attorney works closely with the Special Counsel for the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General for Civil Affairs, and Director of Government Counsel & Accountability and collaborates with attorneys and legal professionals throughout the Office.

The Government Counsel and Accountability Division provides general counsel to nearly 100 boards, commissions, and agencies across the state. The Division is involved in promoting and enforcing government accountability and transparency laws, which includes compliance with the Open Meetings Act, Inspection of Public Records Act, and other obligations of state and local government. Work in the Division includes broad areas of state law and policy, such as legislative analyses and drafting official Attorney General Opinions at request of state officials, as well as a wide variety of other civil responsibilities designated to the Attorney General. The Division’s attorneys are quintessential in fulfilling the Attorney General’s statutory duty to provide competent legal advice and representation to various parts of the state government and to help ensure that government remains accessible and transparent across the state. The Deputy Director will have primary responsibility for assigned clients, will fulfill other Division responsibilities as assigned and will lead an assigned team of Division attorneys in delivering legal services to client agencies and to the Division. The Deputy will supervise and mentor assigned attorneys and staff, to include training; guidance; performance reviews; development and oversight of performance improvement plans; daily consultation on assignments; oversight of all client engagement and support functions; and consistent adherence to Division processes and procedures, including information and data management systems.

 The DSG will assist the Solicitor General with constitutional and high-level state and federal appellate analysis and briefing, including consideration of appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court and drafting, reviewing, and recommending on multistate amicus briefs in criminal matters. The DSG will also assist with ensuring timely, high-quality, and consistent appeals are handled by the Office, and advise on various related and derivative affairs, such as certiorari review, extraordinary writs, and concessions. The DSG will also be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training new criminal appeals attorneys as appropriate; working with other divisions within the Agency to advise on legal issues and appellate strategy; managing the Agency’s involvement with statewide and national organizations and committees and coordinate the Division’s responsibilities as D.A. Liaison; perform human resources responsibilities including evaluations and performance plans as appropriate; serving as the Agency’s liaison with courts and other state agencies; and coordinating press involvement on criminal matters.
