Santa Fe, NM – Today, in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, Attorney General Hector Balderas added suicide prevention to the list of topics covered in educational trainings offered across the state by the Office of the Attorney General. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in New Mexico among young adults age 15-24 and the tenth leading cause of death nationally.

“We must engage our communities across New Mexico in serious conversation about mental health and suicide prevention,” said Attorney General Balderas. “Suicide prevention is critical to public safety and key to keeping New Mexico children and families safe and healthy.”

The Community Outreach Division of the Office of the Attorney General already offers a variety of trainings covering topics from financial literacy, internet safety and teen dating violence to students and other community members statewide. Suicide prevention trainings can now be scheduled by contacting Shay Garcia-Roy, Community Outreach Coordinator, at 505-827-8000 or [email protected].
