AG Balderas Secures Multiple Felony Convictions against Convicted Sex Offender

Albuquerque, NM – Today, Attorney General Balderas announced that a Bernalillo County jury
convicted 28 year-old Edward Cebada of forcibly raping a 16 year-old high-school female in her
car at Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque while he was on sex-offender parole. Jurors convicted
Cebada of one count of Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor and one count of Attempt to
Commit Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor after a weeklong trial.
“This man is a repeat offender, who should not have been near children.” said Attorney General
Balderas, “I will be asking our New Mexico Legislature to expand our impact justice model
throughout New Mexico.”
Sentencing is scheduled for July 31, 2019. Cebada faces between 4-20 years in the Department
of Corrections and is already a registered sex offender.
