ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that a
Sandoval County grand jury indicted convicted sex offender Rollie Bruvold on four counts
of criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13 years old. The crimes allegedly
occurred in 1985 while Bruvold was camping with the child in the Jemez area. Earlier this
year, the Court of Appeals reduced Bruvold’s 108-year sentence in a 2002 child-sex case
to 18 years, which Bruvold has already served.
“Protecting our children from sexual predators remains the top priority for my office,” said
Attorney General Balderas. “I will continue to stand up for brave adults who were
victimized as children.”
Prosecutors also today motioned to preventatively detain Bruvold on the basis that he
poses a serious danger to the community and should not be released pending trial. A
hearing on that motion will be set within three days. If convicted of all charges, Bruvold
faces a minimum of 18 years in prison and a maximum of 72 years in prison. Bruvold is
also facing another similar case being prosecuted by the Second Judicial District Attorney
and the Office of the Attorney General in Bernalillo County for crimes occurring from 1985
to 1994. He is currently detained pending trial in that case.
This case was investigated and will be prosecuted by members of the Office of the
Attorney General.
