AG Balderas Announces Grand Jury Indictment of Man Who Forced Woman into Sex for Drugs

Albuquerque, NM – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced the grand jury
indictment of Fred Lewis. Between early 2015 and late 2016, Lewis is alleged to have allowed a
woman who recently moved to Albuquerque to share his apartment, eventually forcing her to
perform sex acts with him and another individual, and threatening to kill her at knifepoint after
she refused to have commercial sex with a drug dealer in exchange for drugs.
“Those who force others into sexual acts against their will belong behind bars,” said Attorney
General Hector Balderas. “I am pleased that Lewis will stand trial for these crimes, and proud of
my agents and prosecutors for protecting vulnerable New Mexicans.”
Lewis is charged with one count of Human Trafficking, one count of Promoting Prostitution, one
count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, one count of of Bribery or Intimidation of a
Witness, and one count of Battery.
Lewis, who is from Gallup, New Mexico, will be arraigned on the charges within the next fifteen
days.
