Santa Fe, NM – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that Gary Gregor, former
teacher in the Española School District, was sentenced to six years of incarceration for his sexual
assault of a second grade student at Fairview Elementary School during the 2006-07 school
year. A jury found him guilty of 3rd-Degree Felony Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor under 13
years old.
“Our office stands with all of the brave survivors of sexual abuse” said Attorney General Hector
Balderas. “The Office of the Attorney General will continue to vigorously prosecute those who
prey upon children.”
As a result of today’s sentencing, Gregor will serve 6 additional years of incarceration on top of a
108 year prison sentence already ordered in a prior case. The New Mexico Office of the Attorney
General previously convicted the Defendant for kidnapping and multiple counts of sexual abuse
against children. Gregor faces one additional trial related to additional allegations of child sexual
assault. This trial is set to proceed in April 2020.
The case was investigated by the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General and prosecuted by
Assistant Attorneys General Brittany DuChaussee and Peter Valencia.
