Santa Fe, NM – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas successfully secured the conviction of
Gary Gregor, a former teacher in the Española School District, for his sexual assault of a second
grade student at Fairview Elementary School during the 2006-07 school year. A jury found him
guilty of 3rd-Degree Felony Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor under 13 years old.
“Our office stands with all of the brave survivors of sexual abuse, and we will continue to
aggressively prosecute those who prey upon children.” said Attorney General Hector Balderas.
As a result of today’s conviction, Gregor faces 6 additional years of incarceration on top of a 108
year prison sentence already ordered in a prior case. Sentencing will take place January 8, 2020.
Last December, the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General convicted the Defendant for
kidnapping and multiple counts of sexual abuse against children. Gregor faces one additional trial
related to additional allegations of child sexual assault. This trial is set to proceed in early 2020.
The case was investigated by the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General and prosecuted by
Assistant Attorneys General Brittany DuChaussee and Peter Valencia.
