ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Today, Tomas Trujillo, a former Taos District Attorney Investigator, was sentenced by Judge Glenn Ellington to serve one year in jail. Trujillo pled to one count of sexual exploitation of children by distribution and faced up to eleven years in prison. Trujillo was formerly an affiliate of the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force which trained him to investigate the very crime of which he was convicted.

“It is disheartening to believe that an individual who was trained to protect children would choose instead to exploit them,” said Attorney General Balderas. “We will continue to enforce the rule of law regardless of job title.”

Trujillo will be released after a year and have to wear an ankle monitor for an additional year. He will then be placed on probation for five years.

The case was investigated by the FBI and special agents from the Office of the Attorney General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Gardner.
