Arvizo faces two other trials involving female inmates

Albuquerque, NM – This afternoon, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that former Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) guard Enock Arvizo was found guilty on two counts of assault against a female inmate in March of 2015. The Office of the Attorney General presented evidence against Arvizo proving he took a female inmate in his custody and control to an unoccupied floor in the Bernalillo County District Court and attempted to kiss her twice while she was handcuffed and shackled. The defendant was charged with two
counts of assault, and was found guilty in about an hour by a Bernalillo County jury. The defendant is still facing two additional trials involving two other victims and charges of criminal sexual penetration of an inmate by a person in a position of authority.

“Preying on New Mexico women when they are at their most vulnerable is unacceptable and my office will continue to focus resources on officials who abuse their positions of authority and violate public trust,” said Attorney General Balderas. “People in positions of power and authority will be held accountable if they prey upon others.”
The next trial for Arvizo will begin in late September. See attached for a photo of the defendant.
