ALBUQUERQUE, NM —Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that
Second Judicial District Court Judge Daniel Gallegos sentenced Curtis Clayton to five
years in the Department of Corrections for possession of child exploitation material, which
depicted sexual exploitation of a child under 13. Investigators with the Office of the
Attorney General conducted a search warrant of Clayton’s residence where they found
over a thousand images of child sexual exploitation.
“We must protect children from dangerous predators,” said Attorney General Balderas.
“My office will continue to track down repeat offenders, and ensure that they are held
accountable for exploiting children.”
This is not the first time that Clayton has been convicted of possessing child exploitation
material. Clayton was convicted of the same crime in 2006. Clayton was sentenced to
probation, and given a deferred sentence in the 2006 case. Clayton will serve an
indeterminate period of supervised sex-offender probation of between five and 20 years
upon release from prison. He must also register as a sex offender.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Bryan McKay and investigated
by special agents within the Office of the Attorney General.
