Your Guide to Scams

The safe way to double your money is to fold it over
once and put it in your pocket. ~Frank Hubbard

At some point in our lives most of us have probably been
lured by the thought of making a quick dollar, a huge profit, a great deal or winning a lottery for millions. Unfortunately, there are also people who make a living by preying on others who are too easily lured by the promise of “easy money.”

As Attorney General, a big part of my job is to protect
New Mexicans from these criminals and the scams they
constantly attempt to perpetrate against the unsuspecting public. Therefore, the message I want to get across is: be suspicious of any offer that claims to reward you with large sums of money for little or no investment on your part.

“Your Guide to Scams” can help you identify some of the
most widespread schemes to separate you from your money and offers tips on how to avoid becoming a scam victim. Remember, besides your money, many scams also attempt to get your personal information which can lead to identity theft. Check my website, http://www.nmag.gov, for our Identity Theft Repair Kit.
