(SANTA FE)--- New Mexico Attorney General Gary King’s Office has a new email address for people to report possible scams. Such potential scams can now be reported directly to the office at communications@nmag.gov.
Possible scams sent to the NMAGO are stored and categorized internally. A summary of these and other scams is sent to the media each month in the form of our Consumer Advisory. New Mexicans can also request Consumer Advisories by sending their email address to communications@nmag.gov, with a message indicating they want to be added to the listserv. Scam Alerts are also sent out as needed by the AG’s office and consumers can have their email address added to that list too.
Consumers have reported receiving scams in their mailboxes at home, work and online as well as on their phones; land lines and cell numbers. Phone scams can be live or sent by automated voice and text messages.
Sending suspected scams to the office is not the same as filing a consumer complaint with the Consumer Protection Division. Consumers who wish to file a complaint should visit the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office Web site at www.nmag.gov to discover what types of complaints the office handles. If the complaint fits the criteria, consumers can download a complaint form and submit it to one of three NMAGO’s by US Postal Service or in-person. The AG’s offices are located in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces.
As a reminder, consumers who receive what they believe to be a bogus check are encouraged to submit it to the NMAGO. Checks that are deemed counterfeit are placed on the AG’s Web site. Consumers can view these Fraudulent checks at www.nmago.gov/checkscams. Consumers who get a “check in the mail” can look at this Web page to compare what they have in hand with what has been sent to the NMAGO.
